William Whittle guilty of the murder of his wife, Alice, by striking her with an axe, in the parish of Farington on 6^th March 1766. He was also indicted for the murder of his two daughters - Margaret (2 years old) and Jennett (9 days old) , with an axe and knife, on the same day. After execution hanged in chains at Farrington.
